I have had many losses day to day.

I have served, yet I am not a soldier.

I have held the hands of strangers and prayed to whatever higher power they needed in that moment, yet I am not a priest.

I have tried to help those less fortunate than myself, yet I am not a missionary.

I serve and tend to and pray with strangers because they call me "doctor".

Each year in Louisiana, we lose too many women to Lung Cancer, COPD, emphysema and

other related lung diseases directly as a result of TOBACCO USE

These women are our sisters, mothers, aunts, friends and even our daughters

Tobacco STEALS

It steals memories and moments that we cannot get back

More people YOU know here in Louisiana are being told they HAVE

LUNG CANCER

Louisiana has the 11th highest incidence

(number of cases diagnosed per year) in the U.S.

More people you know in Louisiana are DYING OF LUNG CANCER every day

Louisiana has the 8th highest death (mortality) rate of lung cancer in the U.S.

LUNG CANCER is the most deadly cancer in Louisiana,

It causes almost 1/3 of the state's cancer deaths

EVEN with the BEST treatment options…

Did you know, IN LOUISIANA, ONLY 15-20% of those diagnosed with Lung Cancer will be alive in 5 years?

Sadly, often times the TREATMENT of Lung Cancer-

Chemotherapy

Immune Therapy

Radiation Therapy

 Surgery

Makes you or your loved one SICKER than they might expect

We often speak of quality of life versus quantity

The balance is difficult for everyone

Caregivers suffer as well-and we still lose the battle much too often

Did you know

 MORE WOMEN SUFFER and DIE

every year in  the U.S

of LUNG CANCER than BREAST CANCER?

There are SO MANY ways Tobacco Use can affect your body

But what about prolonged suffering?

Do you see yourself STRUGGLING to breathe each day because of the effects smoking can have on your lungs?

Being on OXYGEN for the rest of your life?

Having to have a bedside HOME VENTILATOR just to breathe?

COPD and Emphysema destroy lung tissue…IN SMOKERS AND as a result of SECOND HAND SMOKE

Why aren’t we talking about women’s issues regarding LUNG DISEASE?

The American Lung Association is

talking about the issues…

If you have symptoms like a cough, wheezing or weight loss and are waiting for them to “go away”, they may not

If you find yourself short of breath or unable to do the activities that you are accustomed to,

there may be ways to improve your breathing

Early signs of LUNG DISEASE are only EARLY if you speak to someone about them

The mission of FATE began as a tool for us to TEACH

However, we must LISTEN and LEARN before we can teach

We must LISTEN to the statistics that our women are dying without the knowledge needed to AVOID the DANGERS of TOBACCO USE

THE TIME IS NOW to LISTEN, TO LEARN AND TO TEACH

My hope has always been to provide knowledge so that EVERY YOUNG GIRL can understand the effects tobacco can have and make AN EDUCATED CHOICE about their own health…

their own FATE

Like Louisiana Cypress, we are STRONG-TOGETHER

STOP and talk to
ONE GIRL you know
about smoking…

We have a
responsibility to
educate our strong
youth about their
future, their FATE

Fate

TAKE THE TIME to
educate one
person you know
about the dangers
of smoking in
Louisiana

Like a PEARL, we are precious

Let us hold one another up

Let us take the time and educate one another

about the effects of tobacco use in Louisiana
